The Bohemia-Moravia borderlands tourist disctrict is a landscape of rolling dense forests, romantic valleys and sandstone mountains. Litomyšl is famous especially due to its Renaissance chateau listed among the items of the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. After a tour of the chateau and the chateau brewery with the house where Bedřich Smetana, a famous Czech composer, was born, you can relax in Monastery gardens. Litomyšl is also the venue of the annual international music festival called “Smetana’s Litomyšl”. In Polička, the hometown of another famous Czech composer, Bohuslav Martinů, you will fi nd the ancient walls surrounding the town which are defi nitely worth seeing. Svojanov castle, not far from Polička, counts among the oldest royal castles. Oskar Schindler’s home town, Svitavy, can take pride in its square with numerous Renaissance and Baroque houses. The Renaissance chateau in Moravská Třebová offers a tour of traditional expositions as well as a visit to a medieval torture chamber or an alchemist’s laboratory. The Rococo chateau in Nové Hrady is called “Bohemian Versailles” due to its beauty and nicely-kept gardens. In addition to the chateau expositions, you can visit the First Bohemian Museum of Cycling as well. The town of Vysoké Mýto welcomes you with one of the largest squares in Bohemia and its Gothic Church of St. Vavřinec; furthermore you can visit here the regional museum focused on technical monuments and automobile design as well.
